Ubuntu is a Linux distribution for desktops, laptops, and servers. It is based on Debian GNU/Linux. Ubuntu aims to provide an up-to-date and stable operating system for the average user, and features a strong focus on usability, regular releases, and ease of installation. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical Ltd, owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. The name of the distribution comes from the southern African concept of ubuntu which may be rendered roughly as “humanity toward others”, “we are people because of other people”, or “I am who I am because of who we all are”, though other meanings have been suggested. This Linux distribution is named Ubuntu as it is expected to bring the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world. Ubuntu is free software and users can share it among each other. The latest distribution is Ubuntu 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” which came out last year.

How to install Ubuntu
If you really give it some thought and you decide to install Ubuntu well Im going to do my best to help you doing that.
1.First download the ISO image and burn it into a cd(you can use InfraRecorder is an easy program to us or you can use a program of your choice) here is the link to download it”http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/?page_id=5”
2.When the cd is ready leave it in the PC and restart the computer. But Don’t worry this is a LIVECD and it will not install the system unless you tell it to. Once it get to the CD menu select “Start or install Ubuntu” (Now, it would be better if you have two hard drives in your computer but if you really one to install it there is away to do it)
3.Once you are in the system play around a little bit with just to get comfortable with it or to get use to it. Now if you are ready to install it just click on the icon “Install”here are the installation steps while in the system:
1. Select your Language
2.Select your Time Zone
3. Select your keyboard layout
4. setting up the partitions (if you are using an entire hard drive) click on “Guided use entire disk” and click forward
5. Is gonna ask you information about you, just fill that up. Don’t forget your password and user name
6. Then is gonna give u a resume of what the system is going to do, make sure everything is the way you want it click forward. It will take about 15 or 20 minutes depending on ur computer’s capacity. Once the installation is complete restart you PC and when you login again is going to be on your new system.
